Meet the trainer

Veronica Irizarry, PMP, CPDT-KA

Methods: I rely on non-aversive, science-based training techniques. This means I use positive reinforcement, natural consequence, and your dog’s personal motivation to achieve the desired result, and I do not rely on force, fear, or pain as motivators. Patience and clarity go a long way!

Credentials: Check out the CCPDT Values to learn what my certification is all about! I take as many opportunities as I can to improve my technique - through seminars, books by the greats, hands on experience with clients, and volunteer rescue rehabilitation. I have also taken courses on pet CPR and pet First-Aid.

Experience: Fetching Honors is my passion project. I have owned dogs most of my life. When I did not have my own dogs in college, I volunteered at local shelters. After that, I began fostering dogs with Australian Shepherds Furever, 501c 3 non profit. Eventually, I “foster failed” and adopted Bella, pictured above, a mixed breed rescue full of attitude and personality. I continued to foster and study techniques to rehabilitate one of the smartest dog breeds, Australian Shepherds. Still not getting enough paws in my life, I continued volunteering at shelters, and started teaching classes with Karma Dog Training. Later, I had enough experience and studied to earn the professional distinction of Certified Professional Dog Trainer. Finally, Fetching Honors was born and the rest is history!
